meditation during negative times

the other day i had a comment on my blogging in waves post about how meditation is the last thing on your mind when you are in the thick of a negative situation or crisis.

do you, lovely readers, also feel this way and have any thoughts and/or suggestions as to how to get back into the groove of meditation when your mind doesn't seem to be in the right space?

merci in advance!!

I like to make a small time commitment 3-5 minutes and just sit. it's not much but it can help you get back in the habit. Or I will single task it. One activity-no distractions and attention.

I was going to mention 5 minutes as well. Also, I find that doing Japa or Passage Meditaton is helpful when my mind feels resistant to sitting.

I think it is all about conditioning. When we're stressed is the perfect time for meditation but we are conditioned to react to stress with more stress. I've found that very short meditations during times of stress are incredibly powerful--but not until we condition ourselves to take those few minutes during the time of stress. That's my experience anyway. Namaste.

Agreed with crazy eddie. Meditation during a crisis can be as quick as making a choice to either panic or breathe.

i almost always turn to meditation in a crisis. i've made it a priority to do this because i've seen the difference time and time again between breathing/not breathing in a crisis & noticed the crisis lasts much longer after the fact in my body when i don't breathe.
