To relieve stress, pamper myself, relax... although, I'll have to admit I've only had one professional massage before and it was only my shoulders... I wish we did live closer! :o)

Hi Melita (Beautiful name by the way)i used to have a weekly massage for general health and relaxation (i was in my 20's then) now (In my 40's) i am about to book myself in for one for medical reasons ...Apparently i have back pain due to scar tissue tightening in my chest (due to a mastectomy)... My question to you would be: Do you think a massage could help this?

Once I was a massage junkie, when I have a high stress job. It was probably the only time I totally forgot everything and enjoy the moment. I love your blog, I will come back often

You know, I'm ashamed to say that I've never had a professional massage.
Wait, does the head massage that my hair salon provides count? Well, with those, I look for it to relax me, because I'm a jumpy and nervous person.

I LOVE deep tissue!
I try to get them as much as I can.
I actually just had a swedish at the Waterfront Spa, and was not totally feeling it.
I want my massage to be hard and firm, and to slightly hurt if it needs to- since I always have so many knots to get rid of.

I loooove massages :)
This is making me want one!

Initially I think of a massage to relax and pamper. But I also believe that it aides in the release of toxins in the muscles. Too bad I only get a message once in a blue moon. I'd love to be your guinea pig, if only we lived closer! ;)

I don't get massages very often but when I do go I am usually looking for pampering, relaxation, easing of muscle tension and a massage therapist who is welcoming and body positive.

Stress, stress and stress again.
That is my #1 reason. I actually had to cancel a massage once because we had a 'crisis' at work and I had to stay late!
Good luck!

I've only had one professional massage and that was in June. I was looking for relaxation, to releave stressed muscles and general health. I also like the idea to help the body get rid of toxins and drain excess of fluids. I would like to have one at least every month but unfortunately massage comes together with 'expensive' and 'luxury' so I see them more as a treat.
I would very happily be your guinea pig if I didn't live so many miles and oceans away!

i love the idea of a massage for relaxation, but for whatever reason i find them kind of painful. i only get them once every couple of years (i really need to get them more often) so when i get them i feel like the massage therapist ends up dealing with years of knots, and i think thats why it ends up being kind of painful. invariably, then, i dont go back, and the cycle continues. reading this i am realizing i need to be better about going for massages more often.

Ok, i'm going to be the odd person out here... and just comment that I avoid massages at ALL costs. I need them as I'm such a tense, type A person, and usually ask Andrew to help out in that area, but I have such weirdness about strangers touching me...
It actually makes me physically anxious.
I did go get a hot stone massage (before I really understood this about myself) and I was so tense that the stones kept falling off my legs... and the lady gave up. it was terrible.

However, I do believe that there could be a time, that if I had an injury I would be advised to get massage therapy. and i would force myself to go. and I'd have to inform the massage therapist of my weird sensory issues to touch, and muster through it.

sigh- wish I could just enjoy them like everyone else!

If I could afford a massage every week, or even every month, I would get one. I carry a lot of my stress in my back, so I often get knots and pain--my main reason for seeking a massage. I like massage for pampering too, but I get real benefit from it during times of high levels of stress.
