the next chapter - the joy diet - nothing

i am a huge fan of doing nothing. it really is an art.

tuesday afternoon i decided to grab a nice hot bath and soak my yoga-ed out muscles in dr. teal's eucalyptus spearmint "relax" epsom salts solution and read the first chapter of the joy diet "nothing."

after reading the chapter of nothing i was inspired to do exactly that - nothing. so i dropped deep down into the tub, water up past my ears, closed my eyes and practiced the art of nothing. it felt great!

reflecting back on this summer i realized that i did a whole lot of nothing. and like it said in the book it leads to joy. this summer i became at peace with myself and the new direction my life is going.

it's never to late to jump in on the joy diet band wagon and i hope that you do.

Good job! I was able to remember to do nothing only once this week...I haven't gotten my book yet so I don't have that visual reminder :P

I love that you spent a summer learning about nothing and have found peace with it. And slipping down into the tub for your 15 minutes...that's the place I found my time for 15 minutes too...bliss!

I'm such a big fan of taking a bath. It's one of the nicest things we can do for ourselves! In fact, today is my birthday and I'm heading upstairs to light a few candles, soak in the tub and enjoy nothing.

Sounds like you are quite practiced at the art of doing nothing. It is so hard, I think! I had a month like that in June though - it was our month to hang out and just enjoy life. There needs to be more of that all around, don't you think?! :) Silke

I seem to be a master at doing nothing, which can sometimes be a problem! :o)

I don't know about you but I find that practicing the art of nothing is easier because I practice yoga. Savasana has been a great tool that I have taken off the mat and into my life through "nothing breaks."

May the rest of your year be filled with nothings. :)

To do nothing, to quiet the brain, ahhhh, feels so good!

Doing nothing really has transformed you. As Carolyn said, you really are growing and changing right before our very eyes.

I also tried the bath idea and I really loved it. I like the way water in my ears forces me to be a little quieter and take in my surroundings a little mre.

I like your sign post - it emphasizes No Thing to me.

I had a season where I learned to enjoy nothingness; came to me much later in life than yours has so you will have more time to put it to practice. But whenever we learn it, it is valuable.

Have a great week as you work with truth.

I frequently find comfort with water. Whether it is by a body of water or in a body of water, it is very grounding for me. I love that you soaked and did nothing! That's my kind of nothing!

The slight movement of water may be a gentle way of sinking/soaking into nothingness. I might try that!

You hit the nail on the head. One must be at peace with oneself in order to do nothing. Reading your post, I felt the peace and contentment wash over me :)

I absolutely love being in the water, but I rarely think to take baths. This week, I'll try a bath and see how it feels for my Nothing time. Thanks so much for sharing your perspective.

Hello Melita,
Your nothin time sounds the best! Having a warm bath and sinking in where all you hear is your own breath. I will try this for my next 'Nothing ' date, thanks for the inspiration, Angie :)

Wow, the bath sounds like a great way to do nothing. How creative. I think I'd find it really difficult to keep my mind from simply wandering while soaking though.

Oh! Spending some nothing time in the tub sounds wonderful!

Your bath sounded wonderful. I think I'll add a duck or two to the water to help with the NOTHING ... a little play should be fun!
